Frequent urination

Question
Hi,
We have a 10 week old westie, we have had her for two weeks. Recently she has started to pee frequently, but just a little. We take her out and she pees right away but inside she will too, but just a little bit and right after going out to potty. I don't know if she doesn't empty her bladder all they way, but it will be every 15-20 minutes sometimes. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Diana,

The symptoms you describe are hallmarks for a medical condition - which is really out of my area of knowledge. Since I work with many house training cases, I've learned a bit about medical conditions that affect elimination habits.

The odds are high that your girl has a very common urinary tract infection, but other medical conditions can cause similar symptoms. The only way to know is to get your veterinarian to inspect her urine.

It's not usually very expensive to run the tests, but hey, it's tough to teach those little puppies to pee in the cups!  <smile)

Just kidding, schedule a vet appointment - UTIs can be painful. I'd rule that out before I looked around for other factors. Good Luck!
