whining and vocalising problems

Question
Hi, I have had my whippet from 10 weeks of age and he is now 10 months. When we go anywhere either with my partner or a friend he gets very distressed when they walk away. It is a real problem at shows as he will not leave them to go in the ring with whining loudly which prgresses to rearing up and chewing his lead  - I believe he appears stressed. He is fine to be left at home or in the car it only occurs in places like shows or when we are on holiday. It confuses me as it does not only happen with my partner but also friends who he only sees occasionally. Watever I try to do makes him even more wound up - it is making it that I cannot take him to a show. If I go on my own he is not too bad, he will get a little bored but I can settle him, he just gets wound up if he sees other dogs playing or doing agility ad he can't join in. but I can cope with that my walking him around.

Answer
Have you tried just ignoring him completely? If you give him more attention it just encourages the behavior. Put your hands in your pockets, stare straight ahead and pretend there isn't a dog next to you. It will get worse before it gets better, but it should clear up in a few days.
