Peeing in the house all of a sudden

Question
I have a 9 mos old Boston Terrier my husband and I have had since December.  He was housetrained very well and very easily.  Recently he has begun to pee in the house.  Just jump on the couch and pee on you?  He does have excitement pee, which we are used to.  He is taken out every couple of hours and too play fetch 2xday.  I don't know what else to do!  Is there a possibility there could be something medically wrong.  He has food allergies and colitis.  Those were treated about 1 month ago.

Answer
Hi Brooke,

Is he only peeing on the couch now?   He is peeing frequently?   If he is peeing frequently than he could definitely have a medical problem - most likely a urinary tract infection or even a bladder infection.   If this is the case, antibiotics would easily work.  You should probably check with your vet regarding this, especially if he is doing this frequently all of a sudden.

Has your Boston been neutered?   If not, he could be marking as he is becoming mature.   If he is not neutered, I would definitely recommend doing so right away.

If none of the above are true, he may need to be crate trained -- until the problem resolves.  For tips on crate training and other training tips -- go to www.paw-rescue.org and look for "Robin's Tips".
