Question
My mom and i just got this adorable bearded collie puppy about a week ago. We got him from a breeder, who seemed to take excellent care of the puppy's. He is trained to go to the bathroom on news papers. Ever since we got him he is terrified of going outside. We have to carry him outside and put him on the lawn. When he is outside he whimpers, shakes, and pulls towards the door. I don't know if he is scared of cars or maybe he just doesn't like the snow and cold? I don't know what to do, but i have never seen a dog act the way he does when we try to take him out.

Answer
Hi Alegra,

How old is your puppy? Has he ever been outside? How cold is it where you live? Well if you have snow, pretty cold. I would get some really fabulous treats (not dog treats!) and teach him that outside is a fun place to be. Teach him to walk on the leash. Teach him to play. He's a baby, your job is to teach him how much fun and how safe being places are, including outside. Don't just stand there and let him shake or whimper. Play with him, engage with him, if he takes only 1 step away from the door tell him he's wonderful and give him a small treat (cheese, hot dogs, chicken, beef.)

Good luck, I'm confident you can get your puppy over this.
