hi
we have a 3 year old cocker spaniel. she has recently developed problems when we take her out on a lead. she pulls all the time and seems to become very anxious as soon as we leave the house. she whines and cries and occaisionally just stops, sits down and starts barking constantly. in the house and our garden she is perfectly well behaved. if you have any thoughts on what could be causing this or how to fix it they would be greatly appreciated
thanks jen

Hi Jen,  Did anything happen to her while you were away from the home on a walk or something?  Also is she spayed or has she had a litter of puppies lately?  has anything changed in the home lately (someone move in or out etc)?  Let me know and I may be able to help.

Dawn

hi thanks for your reply
we havent had her for too long actually only a few weeks, we got her from a lady who could no longer look after her. she is not speyed and has never had any puppies. i am hoping that maybe the problem is caused by her move and will pass with time. she also barks at every dog we encounter she doesnt appear aggressive she doesnt show her teeth or anything but i have to drag her away to prevent her from being eaten by the much larger dogs she seems to choose to provoke!
thanks jen

Answer
Hi Jen, it does take an adult dog approx. 4 weeks to acclamate to a new home, so a lot of it could be the stress of a new home.  Which of course, will pass with time.  I would start her in obedience training so that she can get basics which help her understand where she stands when it comes to the heirarchy of the family in your home.  It will also help you get an upper hand on the problems with her and other dogs.  Hope this helps,

Dawn
