Question

I have a 7 month old yorkshire terrier, just lately with in the last month or so she has become very aggressive, only if you are sitting down in the living room furture or laying on the bed. For excample, last night my husband was sitting in his car and my daughter was going to give him a hug and kiss goodbye, (Lily) my dog became very aggressive with barking and growling then proceded to bite my husband and drew blood. If my daughter was sitting in the chair and he approched her she would do the same . It seems that there are no favorties, its just who ever is in the sitting or laying down position. She is getting much worse and barking more and more at every little thing. Please help if you can  Thanks Alot

Answer
Marilyn it would appear that we have a case of a little Yorkie with princess syndrome.  She sees herself as Alpha, as queen and you all are her loyal subjects and followers.  I believe Lily would benefit from the NILIF program.  Nothing In Life Is Free.  In other words, she gets nothing from you or anyone else in the family without doing something for you first.  She must sit or down before being fed.  She must sit quietly to recieve affection.  If she comes up and jumps up on your lap, put her back on the floor and make her sit down before giving her attention.  Here is a wonderful article about the program.  http://thecaninesource.homestead.com/NILIF.html  Lily needs to understand her place in your pack.  It will not happen overnight, but I believe if you stay consistent with her she will improve.
