icky discharge

my 16 month old boston terrier mix was neutered when he was 6 months. he will lick where his testicles were often and there will be a swelling there but the vet told me that was no big deal. this past week he has been licking his penis and then crying and then back to licking again. today i noticed that there is a yellowish discharge. of course the vet is closed until wednesday and id like to do something to make him feel a little better until we can get him there. can you give me any advice or recommend anyone that can?

Hi Michele,  First off don't let him lick it as he will irritate it more.  It sounds like he has an infection.  Hopefully nothing has gotten up into the sheath.  Has he been near any weeds or foxtails that could get up into the sheath?  The reason I ask is because of the crying out.  I would clean it with warm water by pulling the sheath back carefully and running warm water over the penis itself.  You might be able to see if anything is there also that way.  If he gets a bloody discharge or has problems peeing, do not hesitate to get him to an emergency vet.  Hope this helps,
