sleeping dogs

Question
On average how many hours do dogs sleep a day? I have a four year old Maltese whose favorite past time is sleeping. I can leave him in his crate while at work, walk him when I get home and within a short period of time he's ready to go back to sleep. He has no apparent medical problems but he sure does love to sleep :)   thank you

Hi Judith;
It could be that he is bored and that is why he is listless.
That much sleeping would certainly concern me.
You could try playing with him more, and see if you can interest him is being more active.
Tell him he "ain't no old hound dog". they lay on the porch and snooze all the time.LOL
Most Maltese I have know are quite active little dogs.
Dogs can be depressed too.
