10-week old puppy behavior

Question
Hi-- I've really lucked out and acquired a smart 10-week old
puppy that already comes when called 80% of the time, and has
made progress on not biting my legs/ankles/feet when i'm
walking around in the kitchen, etc.

He's gated into the kitchen which also opens onto an enclosed
porch, and this is the area he is allowed to stay in during the
day.  I'm home all day with him (except to run errands).  He's
crate training, but wets the bedding in his crate ~50% of the
time.

I take him outside frequently throughout the day, and for a few
days in a row he was eagerly going to the bathroom in exchange
for a piece of his kibble, but this has decreased, as he has
become more interested in eating grass than going to the
bathroom (the crate-wetting has increased because of this).

The MAIN issue at hand, however, is that every single time I step
over the crate (to get something from another room, use the
restroom, etc.) even if it's only for 30 seconds, he pees in the
doorway where I left the room.  I know he's VERY young, but is
there any way that this could be intentional?  It's the only
"accident" he ever has in the house.  I've tried exiting and
entering through other doors, and practice leaving him alone for
brief seconds of time when I know he's just urinated outside, but
no matter how many little tricks I play, he consistently urinates
on the floor whenever I leave the room.

I read one book which mentioned this could be a sign of
separation anxiety, however he doesn't demonstrate any other
signs of separation anxiety.  He would gladly remain in his
exercise pen outside all day, even when I leave him and come
inside (which I don't do often, since he eats so much grass).  He
goes right to sleep in the crate and doesn't cry when I leave the
house, and doesn't cry at night when he sleeps in the kitchen--

I'm STUMPED!  He's just such a good boy otherwise, this seems
like a nasty little habit to build at such a young age... any advice
would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Danielle,  He is not suffering from separation anxiety, he is too young and you got him too young to have had him develop any anxieties with you.  I need to know what kind of dog we are talking about, where you got him from, how large is his crate and how old was he when you got him?  He is obviously feeling some anxiety in a sense as he shouldn't be eating so much grass.  Eating grass is normally a sign of a stomach ache or a dog who is stressed.  He's not crying in his crate because he has adjusted to the fact it is his den, so he is feeling secure in it.  Let me know the answers to the questions above and I should be able to help you more.
