Vomitting

Question
I have a 17 year old mutt. He is about 13 pounds and very active. For about a year now he has been vomiting about 3 times a week. It is usually yellow in color and rather watery. He has been tested for everything, cbc, parasites the vet ran several tests on him. The vets advice was to always have some kibble in his bowl. Well we have done that and there is no change. Is there anything I can give him to help ease his tummy's woes?

Answer
Hi EchosRainbow,

Thank you for writing to me about your senior pooch.

Would I be off track if I asked if your dog is on Rimidyl or a similiar drug for arthritis?  If so, it may be upsetting his tummy and causing him to vomit.

To aid in digestion, I would suggest adding Prozyme to his food.  You can get this on line at J&B Wholesale Pet Supply.

You can also give him whole yogurt, ginger capsules from the health food store and slippery elm bark, also from the health food store.  These will all aid with digestion.  The Prozyme will assist with digestion and absorption.

I would also switch to a human grade high quality food such as Prairie, Nature's Variety, Biljack, Nutro, Solid Gold Fish & Potato, etc etc.

Lastly, I would also get a second opinion or take him to a specialist.

Best of luck,
Shelley Davis
