Small Male Shitzu-Terrier mix -skin irritation

Hello-

This dog is pretty new to us as no one claimed him after we found him. It has been about 3 months. He is black. We got him all his necessary shots and he had a bout of tape worm that has been resolved. for the past 2 weeks he has been biting at his rear and tail.

In that area he has pinkish or reddish coloring on the skin and tiny reddish bumps. some have scabbed over. My roommate put some antibiotic cream on him and I think she tried neosporin for a spell too. It stops him from biting the area for a little while.

Waht are your thoughts, and also what can we expect form a trip to the vet?

Hi Amy, it sounds like he has a hot spot.  You need to keep him from aggravating it, keep the scab off it so an infection doesn't start underneath it, keep it clean with hydrogen peroxide and put triple antibiotic ointment on it to prevent infection.  Hope this helps,
