Tartar builup on puppy

Question
Can a Puppy (Basset Hound in this case) 6 months old have tartar buildup on its rear teeth? Mine does, so my vet is questioning its true age. The dog is 29lbs and its other teeth are very white but rear teeth are yellow. Could there be some other explanation?

It's very unlikely that a 6 month old puppy is going to have tartar build up on his molars as he would have just had them erupt not too long ago.  I suppose anything is possible, but if you don't know for sure when your dog was born, I would have to agree with your vet's assessment.
