How much should my Chin eat?

Question
Hi - I have a 19 wk old Japanese Chin that I got when she was 8 wks old.  Over the past few weeks, I've noticed a sharp decline in the amount of food that she eats per day.  I put a cup of food (Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy)in a baggie each morning and feed her from that bag all day just to try and measure what she is actually eating.  She is probably eating between a 1/4 and a 1/2 cup a day.  She is 5lbs 11oz. When I got her she was 2lbs 8 oz.  I did change food a few months ago (From Precise to Eukanuba) and she seems to love the Eukanuba but lately she hasn't been eating as much.  Is it because her growth cycle has slowed down?  Please advise...Is Eukanuba a good food - should I be feeding her something else?

Answer
Hello, I think Precise is better then eukanuba, I dont endorse anything made by iams due to the cruel tests they have perfored on dogs and cats in the past(www.iamscruelty.com) Iams makes Eukanuba. A tiny dog like a japenese chin will not eat a whole cup a day...my 12 pounds boston terrier only eats a cup of food per day! I depends also what the bag of food says...some cheaper food or lesser quaility "high end" foods will require the dog to eat more to get everything it needs out of the kibble, I strongly REcoomend Blue...also know as Blue buffalo this is a very high quaility kibble and I perosnaly feed my two terriers the fish and potatoe formula due to allergys...its a very rich food. The amount she is eatting seems normal for a small breed puppy, Also she is likly teething now and hard kibble may be hurting her gums try soaking it if you think shes not eatting as much as she should because it hurts to chew. Best of luck.
