Pug dog and skin coloring

Question
I am not sure if this is a major concern or not, so that is why I am writing to you.  In January I adopted a 5 yr old pug, and in March, she got hit by a car and now is recovering great. I believe I am all done with getting her pins out and everything (it was about a week and a half ago), but the other day her excess skin that is attached from her thigh to her abdomen is now a dark purple color at the edges. It also looks like her skin where her stitches are is also darker than before. She still goes to the bathroom when we take her out and doesn't seem to be affected (still runs and jumps and eats normal) by the coloring. I thought maybe it was because it was starting to get hot out and I know pugs are prone to over heating, but then it cooled off again and hasn't changed back to normal color. Should I be concerned about this or is this something normal with a pug.  Thanks for listening.

Answer
Hi Marija and thanks for your question.

It is not unusual for injured tissue to become a bit discolored (or scarred). It may be that during the last surgery, the skin bruised slightly and now that the inflammation is going down, the bruising is showing up more. The stitches area is probably going to be a little discolored for a while and it could be permanantly discolored, which is normal as well.

I would just watch these area's and make sure that it's not getting worse or swelling. If at any time, she seems to be having problems with these areas or starts acting lethargic, take her for a check up, but I honestly don't feel it's to big of a concern at this point.

I hope this helps.
