Will I ever have the same realtionship with my dog again?

I got a new puppy as a companion to my older dog  - a 4 year old cairn. Its early days - but he seems miserable and subdued. The puppy is quite dominant but he seems to be dominating her. I'm worried he won't bounce back to his old self and that I won't have the same relationship with him ever again. Is this true? We've only had the puppy for a week. She is responding well to training and we make sure we spend time alone with the older dog and her.

It has been a short time, he is still adjusting, and im sure things are weird for him. Give him a bit of time, and do even more fun things than you used to with him, go a new place, or get him some new toys etc. You want him to think that having the pup around will benefit him.
