Training my Yorkie.

Question
My yorkie is almost 6 1/2 months old and is still not trained. I'm 17 and got Louie (my yorkie) for my birthday and my father and I have alot of conflict training him.
He always feeds him wet dog food, and I feed him dry dog food. Does this constant change in dog food take a toll on the dog's bathroom habits, and is it true wet food isn't good for their stool? I'm really stressing to train him becasue we're trying to remodel our house and we can't get new carpet until he stops peeing/pooping in the house. Changing foods often will cause loose stools also canned food makes for soft stools that are Not easy to pick up.
