My new dogs behaviour

Question
My mother brought a new puppy home and she tells me that it is ten months old and we named Him Nino. Nino likes to follow me a lot and lays by my feet, i know that is normal behaviorism for dogs, but Nino is different. He likes to bite my fingers and my sometimes my face. If he doesn't bite my fingers he starts to whine and cry. I was wondering if this was normal or not. Should i take him to the vet to be checked out? Or what?

Thanks in advance for answering.

Answer
Many puppies bite fingers and faces. Particularly if they've not been taught proper pack behavior by mom and/or siblings. You must never allow your puppy to bite or mouth you in any way. Respond with a sharp, loud 'yelp' , as high pitched as possible , followed by a stern no. Turn your back on the puppy and do not give him any attention for a minute or so> Then resume what you were doing prior to the bite. Make sure he has plenty of toys, and lots of playtime. It is also MOST important that you leash train and walk your puppy, twice per day. A good brisk pace and preferably an hour each time. This is part of good dog ownership and necessary> Dumping your pup in the back yard to 'excersize' will not get the job done, Do not let puppy tug or pull you along but ask that he remain at your side unless YOU allow him to sniff around or potty at YOUR discretion.
You have to be vigilant and consistent.
Good luck
