what to feed my shitzu dog

my dog is 6 years old and i was told that the reason his eyes leak and stain his fur is because the food i am giving him has a red dye in it..what should i be feeding him?

Answer
"Leaking eyes" is not due to red dye in food. The dog most likely has conjunctivitis or distichiosis (extra eyelashes rubbing on his eyeballs), and the irritation is causing his eyes to water. The staining is due to his body pH, which can be affected by what he is eating or drinking (but dye has nothing to do with pH either). Have your veterinarian check out his eyes, and put him on a better diet since dyes in food is not healthy.
