Question
When I arrived home tonight, there was a stray pup in my back yard.   Odd since it is fenced, but I jokingly say it's a Birthday gift from God, today's the big 25.   I brought him in and am falling for him quickly.   I plan on calling the animal control to see if anyone is missing him, but if not would like to keep him.   I have not had a dog since i was very young, and do not know the first about how to figure his breed or needs.   What sshould I do to make him happy and healthy?

Answer
Well first it would be a good idea to have a vet look at him, because things like worms are very common in puppies but are easily treated, also the vet will want to give him some booster shots

and it's a good idea when he's about 6 months to get him neautured as that will reduce him wanting to wander, and also eliminate him from getting certain types of cancer,as well as contributing to pet over population

and the best way to house train a puppy is to use a crate and keep him in there all the time, except to take him outside,to feed him,to play with him ect

And it's also a good idea to take him to puppy classes as it helps to prevent dog aggression when he gets older,as well as helping you to teach him manners-and then when he is around 9 months, obedience training is a must as it will show you how to fix or prevent any problems with him

As for figuring out his breed, sometimes the vet can guess, but if you want to take a picture of him,and put it up on a website(such as www.photobucket.com),just get back to me with the link-I'm pretty good at guessing breeds, even in mixes
