Question
Hi Patti,
It's Ann again. One quick question on the cran-max or cranberry pills for UTI for my dog.  How much and how often should I give to her?
Thank you for all you help, it is greatly appreciated.

Ann

Answer

Hi Ann,

Cranberry will help but won't treat a UTI, there really aren't any substitutes for the prescription medication your dog needs.

I forget the size of your dog, usually 250mg given 2 times a day is sufficient to help maintain good bladder health. Solid Gold dog food makes a supplement called Berry Balance which helps control urinary pH. Another veterinary product is called Cranberry Relief. Since these products are intended for dogs, the dosing is less of a guess.

Even though your dog is needing to pee more frequently than normal, having her drink even more water will help flush her bladder. If you can't get her to drink, add water to her food, and of course let her outside more frequently so she's not holding her urine.

Best of luck,
Patti
