Breeding Chihuahua

Question
I picked up a stud dog for my female chi last night. I'm finding that she's the one.... doing the act... to him, not the other way around. He's a young dog, a year old. How can I help him understand they need to reverse? How long can I expect to have him there with her before I know it has "taken"? We're only breeding once or twice and only because a couple of my family members (sister and father) want one of her pups.

Answer
Hi Kim,  He will eventually get it as far as how to do it.  Dogs "tie" when they breed, bascially they hook up and can't come apart for about 20-30 minutes.  This is when the sperm transfers from the male to the female.  You won't know when it has "taken" until she actually starts showing signs of being pregnant.  Hope this helps,
