Question
our "Molly" is 13 years old, doing very well.  Question, is it common for the breed to develop little "fatty tumors" on their back.. noticed the first time about 6 months ago, vet says nothing to worry about...we just have to be careful when clipping. Otherwise she is healthy, happy and just walking a little slower!

Answer
Fatty tumors are fairly common in many dogs as they get older. I don't know if it is an individual thing or a genetic thing, but the dogs I have been more careful to keep *slightly* on the thin side throughout their lives seem to have fewer of them as they age... and excess weight does have a negative effect on the size of the tumors as any extra weight seems to head right toward those tumors.

If your dog starts to develop any of those warty-type growths, they are easy to remove by tying a tight thread around their base and cutting off their circulation. It dries them up and they drop right off in a couple days. (Clear the hair around them first...)
