Question

Roxy
I have a shih tzu, shes 4 months old...shes having stomach problems...about 4 days ago she had bad bloating. It calmed down now but shes still having problems eating and she is not as active/excited as she was. She vomits pure liquid (white...I think its just water) and actually yesterday her fecal had a worm. The Vets gave us some Penacur 100mg a little earlier through the week and it still did not help. If there is any advice you can give us to make her herself again please advise...thanks :)

Answer
You need to be dealing with your veteriarian about this as you need to find out WHY this is happening.

Take in a stool sample to determine *exactly* what parasites she is carrying as not all meds are good for all parasites.

Any time a dog starts vomiting, it MUST be fasted for 24 hours in order to give its intestinal tract time to recover. Also remove her water so that she cannot tank up and keep the vomiting cycle going. Instead, give her an ice cube every hour, and when she starts leaving water in her bowl, you can start giving her small amounts of water at a time. Watch her for dehydration! Pull up on the skin at the back of her neck, and in a hydrated dog, it will return to its normal position very quickly. When it starts to go down slowly (or not at all), the dog is dehydrating and needs fluids (sub-q) ASAP.

After the fasting, start her out on a small (tsp.) of rice mixed with a bit of Gerber strained chicken (the baby food) for flavoring. Give her this every 2-3 hours or so, and *gradually* increase the amount throughout the day. By the end of the day, or even the next day, slowly start adding her regular dog food, a couple kibbles at a time. Each feeding, give her more kibble and less rice, but SLOWLY. Continue in this fashion until she is entirely switched back to her normal food. If at any time the dog vomits, start over with the 24-hour fasting again. Continue in this fashion until the dog is eating normally again.
