Question
QUESTION: we recently adopted a male australian shepherd dog who displays barking and growling toward my husband; he has attempted to bite him. the dog gets along well with neighborhood dogs, children and adults, with our other dog in the house and me and he is fine with my husband when i am out of this house. my husband has been walking, feeding and rewarding him when he gets control of his barking and attempts to bite but the behavior continues.  it is hard to predict and can be scarry. what else should we do?

ANSWER: Hello Rose;
I will tell you, that this breed is very territorial, and has lots of issues with socialization!
I will recommend that you take him immediately to a "Socialization" Class, and or "Obedience" lessons...as otherwise, your husband will be bitten or worse!
So, get to  a "Petsmart" or a "Park" class, and start working with a regualar instructor, who knows their stuff.
Let me know how you do, and I will be available to help further if need be.
Regards,
Melissa

QUESTION: he is well behaved under evry other circumstance we can put him in.  it is specific to the house and when i am in the house.  he behaves when i am out of the house. we are doing obedience with him but not through a class and a relaxation protocol.

Answer
The Best thing about a Class Rose, is that they will give you a lot of outside "Stimuli" that you cannot create...this will give you the opportunities to stop this problem so quickly, and not endanger anyone else!
I understand that you are being diligent in working with him, but, there is nothing like getting an outsider to help you with this particular problem for sure!
If I can assist you further, I will be around.
My New Book comes out next week or so, and if you are interested in having more of a Reference tool, I would suggest that you keep your eyes out for the link on my Profile page.
Best regards,
Let me know how you go...
