Question
Im heart broken at the recent loss of my best friend and companion Diesel (A 1yr old boxer). He was struck by a car, breaking his front leg and his hind leg. The vet informed us that it would be a minimun of $5,000.00 to have both legs fixed. She informed us that the surgury wouldnt take place until the next morning. Unable to see our best friend in so much pain and discomfort, we decided to put him to sleep. I feel soo terrible, my whole world has been turned upside down. My house is no longer a home without him. Was there anything else we could have done? What would have his chances for recovery been like? I feel like ive turned my back on the only person who cared about me. He was dependant on me/us to keep him safe, and i let him down. Im soo sorry diesel, i love u soo much.

Answer
Dear Chris,

Thank you for writing to me and sharing your heart breaking loss with me.  My heart is aching for what you have been through.  I am very sorry that you were unable to contact me when this first happened.  There are many ways to get financial assistance for emergencies such as what happened to Diesel.  Your vet should have tried to help you with this.  Fixing broken bones is a no brainer and your dog would have had a painful, uncomfortable but full recovery.  I am so terribly sorry for your loss.   Just know, that your beloved Diesel will send another dog to you before long.  You can honor Diesel's life by RESCUING another boxer, and making sure that you provide a fenced yard where he can be safe from cars. RIP Diesel.

Best Regards,
Shelley Davis
