My lab puppy

Question
I have a ten month old , neutered male chocolate lab. I love him but he is making it extremely difficult to do so .
I also have a 12 year old chocolate lab who's life is being ,made difficult by the pup . Lets start at the beginning . This puppy was born in my basement while i was babysitting his dam, he is the product of a really ill thought out breeding of my friends crazy female and another friends beautiful gentle natured male. Unfortunately he has all his mothers bad traits. He chews, he often soils his crate, despite how often he is exercised. He digs up our lawn, He knocks down my children, but the thing that i find absolutely intolerable is the fact that he is constantly biting my older dogs legs. It is to the point that my older dog does not want to go outside if the pup is there. I have tried reprimanding the pup , physically restraining him, including putting him in submissive positions, but he immediately resumes badgering the old guy when i let go. when I tie him up he barks incessantly , thank god i live in the country. I hate to say it because I am in the veterinary field, but drugs are starting to look like an option. Others have suggested  remote shock collar, but I am not thrilled with that option. don't get me wrong , I love my pup , but my nerves are frazzled and the possibility of him injuring my old guy is making things worse. please help!

Answer
Some dogs are very difficult, requiring constant corrections.  He should eventually learn to leave the older dog alone.  You need to divert him with a chew toy as soon as you see him focusing on the older dog.  Give him a sharp ''Ut, ut, ut!'' and offer the toy.  Praise him if he takes it.

Chewing means a combination of careful supervision using closed doors and gates to keep him in the same room.  I have used a tie down at my computer desk.

It may help with soiling the crate to walk him good before putting him in it.  They can only walk and hold it so long.

I commend you for being slow with the drugs, but would rather see them than a shock collar.  The crate soiling may be from stress.  A shock collar would only increase the stress.
