Question
Hi! my husband found your sight. I do hope you can help clarify a couple of questions for me.  I am looking for a female yorkie to breed with my male. I have seen a couple that I like. But I have a couple of questions. I want to make sure I am sure about my choice.  I have done alot of research.  What is the difference between AKC and APRI.  Both breeders have said that they have the best. AKC(goldiesyorkies.com older puppies page TF2) APRI(specialpaws.com female pups#2 #7052) Carolyn, at special paws seemed very nice and knowledgable. However, the little girl she has seemed to have fine hair.  She stated that her coat will thicken up as she is only 7 mos. old. Is she correct? I have seen others that age and younger and they have nice coats.  Can you please look at the 2 and tell me what you think?  I have looked at so many beautiful girls. But I have narrowed it down to these 2.  thanks, Dolores

Answer
Dolores,

There are a lot of things to consider before you purchase one of these puppies.  Are you planning on breeding her?  If so you will need to purchase a puppy that is going to be about 5 pounds when full grown.  You cannot breed a teacup Yorkie because they are too small.  The risk of complications for a small yorkie having puppies is very high.

To be completely honest I don't really know much about APRI.  What I can tell you though is that the AKC is the Gold Standard in the USA.

I looked at both females and if I was going to choose one to be my pet (not for breeding) I would choose the one from goldiesyorkies.com  She is beautiful and small.  Her hair is thick and full and her coloring is perfect.  The other one you looked at has a thin coat and I disagree with the breeder when she says it will thicken up as she gets older.  Yorkies have several different hair types.  They range from thick to thin, and fine to coarse.  At seven months her hair is the color and texture that it will remain throughout her life.  Her hair appears to be both thin and fine which is much harder to take care of because it mats easily.

The first one you looked at also has been reared in a home environment and not a kennel.  This is a big plus because they are more socialized and loveable.  She is also younger which gives you an added benefit because she will be easier to train to your environment than an older dog.

Of course ultimately the decision is up to you.  Good luck.
