sick puppy

I have a female jack russell terrier, who recently had puppies that are 4 weeks old. She lays aroung alot. Is it normal for the mother to eat her puppies poop.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I was out of town on a family emergency.

Yes, it is very normal for her to eat their poop. In fact, her licking their fannies will make them poop and then she will eat it.

She should be spending most of her time laying around licking and nursing the pups. It is vital to make sure she eats, drinks and potties though.

Call your vet if you are worried and make sure to have their declaws removed and get their shots and worming on schedule.
