My large Jack Russell

Question
Hi Beth.  In one of your posts, you stated you have a JRT that is 15" tall and almost 30 pounds.  That is good to know because I have a JRT that is huge, I have yet to find a bigger one.  He stands almost 16" and weighs 32 pounds.  He is 4.5 years old and in perfect health.  What is strange is that his Dad is only 12 lbs and 11" tall and Mom is 15 lbs and 13" tall.  I asked the breeder how he ended up so large and she told me that it must be due to a throwback gene.  I have the registration papers for continental kennel club but I never registered him.  I'm perfectly happy with Stuart as a family dog so I have no need to register him.  Just thought it was cool that you have a JRT almost as large as mine.

I agree that it's a big relief to know we're not alone.  Connor came from a shelter, so when I told people how big he is, they all thought he must be a mix or overweight... until they met him or saw photos.

He is very fit and trim and certainly **all** JRT - just a big dude.  He's deeper chested than they are supoosed to be, but the fact that his tail is docked too short too indicates he did not originate from a good breeder in the first place.

I got Connor's ILP from the AKC since we do earhdog, agility and obedience and I wanted him to be able to get some titles along the way to show off what a shelter dog can do... and no one has ever ever thought there was anything else in his bloodlines.

Nice to hear about Stuart (love the name !).
