Standard Poodle growth prediction

Question
Hello, we adopted a cream male standard poodle in May. He had been rescued from a puppy mill at about 4 weeks (birthday is unclear), and weighed about one pound. We adopted him at 6-7 weeks, and he was four pounds. We are guessing he is now about 5 months, is doing beautifully, he has gained weight consistently, and weighs 32 pounds. Is there any way to predict any kind of adult weight range for him without knowing his bloodline? Will he possibly be stunted in any way due to his miserable first few weeks? Thank you!

Answer
Hello Yvette,
It Is kind of hard predicting how filled out a dog will be if you don't know the dogs background, and because he may have been negelected, he could be stunted.  He sounds like he may be a bit smaller than an average sized Standard at 5 months, but he may just keep growing until he reaches average.  The average size for a male Standard at a year is around 55-60 lbs, so he isn't too far off from that.

Just keep doing what you are doing with him and he should be alright.  He sounds like he is a happy member of your family.
