Flying Vs. Driving

Question
Dear Amy,

I am relocating from NJ to Dallas, TX and I'm taking my beloved Choc Lab named Godiva with me.  She is 2 years old and very energetic.  I'm totally stressed out about how to transport her.  I've heard some horror stories about flying her, which makes me very nervous.  Luckily, my 2 best friends have volunteered to drive my car down to me while I fly there.  Should I fly my dog with me where she'll be terrified for about 4 hours because she'll be in a dark and loud cargo area of the plane or should I have her drive down for over 20 hours in a car w/ my friends?  I'm honestly torn and I dont know what to do.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I dont know which one is the lessor evil.

Please help!

Thanks.

Sherleen

Answer
Sherleen,

I understand how you feel about planes.  I've never had to fly a dog though only drive them.  Honestly, I would ask my friend to drive with the dog. AS long as they are in a kennal or have a dog seat belt, and your friend stops to take her out, and feed her. I think she'll be fine.  THough if he wants to stop at a hotel they'll have to ask if they allow dogs if all they'll be is in a kennal. Thats my opinion, i've never liked taking my dogs on planes so I never did, so just think it through talk it over with your friends, and I hope all of you have a safe and happy journey.
Amy
