Eating and drinking

Question
My fiance' moved in with his 9 year old female yellow lab about a year ago. I have never seen a dog obsess so much about eating. She would eat and eat until she blew up or got sick. Nothing could be on the counters. A pie disappeared, as did a five pound bag of potatoes and a loaf of bread. She is fed a cup of kibble twice a day. From what I've read, that is appropriate. She weighs about 80 or so pounds. Not only that, but I have a question about water. She would drink and drink and drink, if allowed. Consequently, she has had accidents, and they are not small accidents. My back yard smells like a urinal and she does too, as she will walk while she urinates, getting it on her legs. How can I make sure she is getting enough water, without taking in the excess that she can do, preventing accidents? I have resorted to filling her bowl half way, and just filling it when it is empty for a short while. I have a cocker spaniel of my own and none of this happens with him. It's all new to me. My cocker also loses very little fur, and I can make a coat out of what is lost on the lab in just a couple of days. Any help with these "problems" would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
LOL this is what happens when two dog owners come together. At nine years old it might be a health problem causing her to drink so much check it with the vet. Two cups is Not enough feed her Four cups a day thats two cups twice a day morning and early evening...avoid feeding her late in the evening to avoid midnight potty breaks. Walking while peeing is strange I've nver heard of this so can't offer any insite. My own lab cant be trusted around tables or counter tops either and oh not around trash cans either.....she would be very very fat if I wouldnt watch her like I do. My own lab is 3 years old spayed and eats 4 cups of lite kibble a day morning and evening she gets two cups and very littele treats, no table scraps and isnt allowed near the trash cans anymore. Labs are reknowned for eatting everything in sight hence they get fat easily. I assume you've got a grassed back yard....any home with a female dog's yard(that has grass) will stink really bad of pee also muli dog homes yards smell worse. Labrador reteriver's are Heavy sheders the only thing you can do is take the dog out once or twice a week and brush the whole dog over and under with a slicker brush. Labs also do drink alot water and slosh it around on the floor when they do but you can't limit the dogs water...again check with teh vet since she is older she may have a health issue causing her to drink so much...you can pick the water up two hours before bed thou to pervent accidents. I wish I could offer more insite but the over drinknig and peeing while walking to me is news and I've not experianced either with my dogs yet. Best of luck with your two dogs and ake it easy on the old gal she is after all 9 years old....she may be becoming slightly incontinet and can not hold it as long as before...also being sure shes being fed a large breed senior kibble or at lest a senior kibble will greatly benifit her overall health. (My lab is also 75/80 pounds she has a waist I can feel her ribs and she isnt over weight...she is just from larger lines she stands 22 icnehs at the shoulder blade...but if you cant feel your dogs ribs or see a waist she is indeed over weight and I would cut out all biscuts and bones/rawhides and no table scraps or getting into trash cans followed up with a good quaility senior kibble will get her on the right track)
