Shock collars for training

What is your opinon on shock collar method of traing labs for basic commands?

I am completely against it.  I am active on some other websites where I routinely see everybody else's answers.  I never see anybody with very much experience and training suggesting using them for basic obedience.  If they are used at all, it should be by trained people in specialized, off lead situations.  Basic obedience should be done on lead.  I have heard of dogs becoming nervous wrecks due to their use.  Find a good book or class.
