Question
QUESTION: Hi Sir/Madam,

I have a male choclate lab who is 13 months old. We have fixed him(Neutered him). We have a plans to go to India for a vacation for 2 or 3 months. Can we take him with us to India? if yes, what is the procedure and what are the checkpoints that i should take care of? When i am coming back to USA after 3 months, what should i take care of? which airlines i can take him? should i put him in cargo? is it danger to put him in a plane in a cargo? Please help me in this situation. It is little urgent. I would appreciate if you can respond to the earliest.

Happy Christmas!!!

Thanks,
Vijay Pachipula

ANSWER: I think it can be done, but will be difficult.  Start with checking likely airlines.  They stay up to date of requiremsnts on where thay fly.  I think the dog will have to be crated and fly cargo.  The airline you fly with is the only one that can say for sure, and each airline has their own rules.  The airline can also give you the requirements for returning to the USA.

There is a certain amount of danger putting the dog in cargo.  The FAA requires the airlines to keep records.  Of the possible airlines, see who has the best record.

QUESTION: i was more concerned about the rules that a country will have if a dog is getting into the country. In my case, my lab is getting into India and back to USA. Would there be any objections by the country security or medical people that reject entering the lab into India or again back to USA? Please tell me what would they require to move the dog with us?

Thanks for your quick response

Answer
I suggested checking with the airlines because they keep track of the rules for each country.  They are very not to get stuck with a dog not allowed to enter the country.  Each country has its rules and they change sometimes.  The airlines are careful to keep up to date.
