Question
QUESTION: We have started to give our Lab a rawhide to chew on, but only when supervised.  However she gets throught them quite quickly.  SHould we be conserned about her diet as she eats the rawhide bone.

ANSWER: Mine have always gotten rawhide and we have no issues with their diet.  What's concerning you?

As an alternative to rawhide you can try raw marrow bones that you get at the grocery store.  They get them raw, with the meat and marrow on them.

QUESTION: We are concerned of the amount of rawhide she is eating.  She gets through a big rawhide bone (10inches) in a couple of days.

Answer
If she is digesting it fine and isn't vomiting or having diarrhea, I am sure she is OK.  You can try other chew items such as the raw marrows or some fancy dog shops have the Merrick natural bones for chewing.  Some dogs like Nylabones.  Mine prefer rawhide, and sometimes the older ones go through a large roll in a sitting.  You may want to look into pressed rawhide bones as they tend to last longer, or retriever rolls.

As long as there appear to be no digestive problems (and you would know by now if there WAS a problem), pups really do NEED to chew alot.  I think giving them plenty to chew on will make them more settled in the house.
