My puppy Buddy

Question
This is not a breeding question but I adopted a puppy from the Humane Society and they had him listed as a Lab-Terrier mix.  Well, now he is 5 months old and has the build of a pit bull.  Have you ever heard of these two dogs mixed? He loves to play and was easy housebroken and shows a lot of love towards everyone that comes to the house. Do you think I will have any problems with him?

Answer
I try to be very careful in my answers to stick to what I have good evidence of.  Many people are becoming skeptical of ''experts'' because they have been lied to by too many with an agenda.  Terriers cover a lot of ground including Pit Bulls.  It is possible the shelter was doing a little marketing.  The insurance company that might cancel your policy for having a Pit Bull Mix may be OK with a Lab/Terrier mix.  The male that a female is know to have mated with may not be the sire of the puppies she produces.

I have very little person experience with Pit Bulls.  I do know that many people claim to have ones that are fine, loving dogs.  I do not know if if all Pit Bulls can be socialized to be nice dogs, and the mean ones were trained to be mean by mean people.

It sounds like your dog, whatever it is, is off to a good start.  I don't think those that claim all Pit bulls are mean have the evidence to back it up.  I wouldn't worry.
