growling labrador

Question
My 5 and a half year old creme Labrador starts growling at me as soon as a i try to discipline him about something wrong hes done.
as soon as i use a different tone the growling starts.or if i try to move is food to somewhere else.i also have a 6 year old German Shephard if it matters.
