Question
i have a 2 year old male jack russell.  he's neutered and well behaved with "the family."  i recently lost my 10 year old beagle and now my JRT has obviously gone through the same stages of greiving as i have over the loss.  with the JRT being 2 years old and somewhat aggressive with only OTHER dogs, how do i introduce a new dog into the house so he has a playmate NOT competition?  also can you suggest a good breed of dog that is more likely to live well with a JRT?

Answer
Hello, First let me say I am sorry for your loss losing are canine companions is a very devastating time. I can say that getting a puppy and a female puppy will work better for your dog. A puppy 7/9 weeks old would be best as she would still have the puppy scent to her which would prevent the male dog getting very aggressive with her...this smell goes away on puppies 3/4 months of age. Also I can recommend: Beagle, Jack Russell terrier, Boston terrier, Miniature pincher, pug, miniature snuzser(sorry not sure of the spelling), Dachshund mini or standard,  Sheltie/Shetland sheepdog. and for larger breeders Labrador retriever, golden retriever, Brittany spaniel, American or English cocker spaniel. i have recommended only very sturdy breeds of dog with terriers in my option you don't want to have a fragile dog in the home...terriers play rough and can injure a very small or toy dog. May I offer a lnik to my website...first let me say there is music only on the home page and can be turned off via the left bottom corner. It offers some information on multi dog households and adding pooch #2. http://www.freewebs.com/dustycovens/index.htm

feel free to eamil again any time if you think i can be of service just let me know.
