Question
QUESTION: HI. I ASKED YOU FOR ADVICE IN MARCH AND YOU WERE SO HELPFUL(ABOUT MO, AND THE NEGITIVE OPINIONS OF JACK RUSSELLS) MO IS GREAT. HE IS FUNNY, HOUSEBROKEN, AND JUST VERY LOVABLE.ALTHOUGH HE GOES THROUGH "ATTACK MODE" HE WILL BE PLAYING WITH THE KIDS AND START ATTACKING THEM. HE THINKS HE IS PLAYING BUT MY KIDS HAVE TO RUN AND TAKE COVER. IT IS PRETTY FUNNY ACTUALLY. THEY LAUGH BUT IAM AFRAID HE MIGHT GO TO FAR
HERE IS MY QUESTION(SORRY FOR THE LONG BEGINING)MO IS
ABOUT 95 % POTTY TRAINED, HE HASNT HAD AN ACCIDENT IN WEEKS. BUT LAST NIGHT (THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE TOO ,BUT WSNT TRAINED YET SO I WASNT CONCERNED)MY HUSBAND CAME HOME LATE, AND MO BARKED AS USUAL LIKE THE GOOD GUARD DOG THAT HE IS. WELL MY HUSBAND DECIDED TO SCARE MO SO HE HID, AND WHEN MO WENT TO THE DOOR TROY WENT BOO. MO RAN SO FAST TERRIFIED, TO MY BED AND PEE'ED ON MY BED.IS THIS NORMAL. ? MABIE BECAUSE HE IS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD? HELP. SHERRI PS. I MAY HAVE TO WAIT TO READ THIS UNTIL IT IS POSTED ON THE WEB SITE BECAUSE LAST TIME I COULDNT OPEN YOUR RESONCE. THANKS!!!!!

ANSWER: Hi Sherri,

Next time have MO hide on your husband, and when your husband comes in late, have MO jump out and scare the pee out of him. :)
POOR MO
He's still only a puppy at 6 months old.... of course he did what comes naturally when a baby is scared! He ran to mommy and wet himself!!!  If your husband stops scaring him, he'll stop peeing on you. :)
Sounds like MO had a very normal response to me.
Another thing...
don't let MO "attack" the kids.
Tell them to absolutely STOP playing the very second he starts to get aggressive. Aggression can escalate and your kids might get bit. You have to teach MO that ANY biting is not acceptable.
Good to hear from you again Sherri!
Take care

QUESTION: thank you i will make this quick. how in the world do we stop the attack biting(playing)? he is the most adorable dog you will ever meet but also the most stubburn(sp) puppy around. he listens pretty good , but when he gets into play mode we cant stop him.mabie he needs to go back to obiedience school.? puppy kindergarden may not be enough for my little angel. sherri p.s . enjoy the 4th. you do not need to rush to this!!

Answer
Hi Sherri,
Like I said before, the SECOND he starts growling, showing his teeth, or getting rough, the kids have to STOP playing. They have to say 'NO!" or tell them to stop in their place and be statues! When the kids run, MO thinks they are still playing. The kids can also act like puppies who are hurt..
I know this sounds funny, but if they lay on the ground and pretend to cry (whimper like a puppy), MO will stop immediately. If you think about how litter mates play and learn together, this is how they do it, and it works great!
The goal is to STOP the behavior before it even begins, so when the growling or rough play starts, nip it in the bud immediately!
MO has to learn that it is NOT tolerated.
A basic obedience class is a WONDERFUL idea and great opportunity for MO and you..... and they're fun too.
Take care
