Question
Hello, I have a 2 yr old golden who is hyper but generally well behaved(no major issues) In the past week though, he has been very aggressive. He has growled and lunged at me several times, he bit my daughter while she was just standing at the counterand again this morning he came after myself and my boyfriend growling with teeth bared. He does not seem to be sick and there have been no chages in our routine, so I'm not sure what the problem could be. Please help - my kids and I are now afraid of the dog.

Answer
Neuter him if not already.  It is no cure all, but will be a big help.

The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. If the above doesn't help, you may have to get a private trainer or behaviorist.  Be sure to select one using positive methods.
