5 month old GSD

Question
I have a wonderful 5 month old GSD. My question is how much should he weigh at this point.  I weighed him today (2/3/2008) and he was 36.4lbs.  He gets fed twice a day and he gets about 2 - 2 and 1/2 cups at each feeding.  We feed him Purina One Puppy formula and he eats it in a matter of minutes.  Should I be worried.  From his shoulder blades to the floor is 20".  I just want to make sure that he is growing at the right rate.  We got him from a shelter so he probably isn't a full blood GSD but you can't really see any other breed in him and I had a breeder say he looked full blood.  I am just worried and want to make sure he is ok.

Answer
I'm glad to see that you are a concerned pet owner and trying to do what is best for your baby. Start that process by changing foods. Nothing you can purchase at a grocery store or discount store such as Wal Mart is worth feeding your dog. You will find that by switching to a better dog food you will not only save money, your dog will look and feel better, live longer and produce much less waste since you will be no longer paying for fillers that your dog cannot digest. Find a dog food at a pet store that has no by products., no corn,. wheat or soy. and no bha or bht. You will be amazed at the change in your pup. Do feed him ALL he can eat in forty five minutes three times per day until he begins to catch up, look better and eat less. Then you can cut him back to twice per day. He will eat a good bit at first, but as he begins to fill out and be less hungry his intake will slow done.
Good luck with your baby and enjoy
