As far as I know, tail docking is just for appearance sake. Many people won't buy a Cocker that hasn't had the tail docked, because they don't look like the true Cocker Spaniel with a long fanned tail. Of course, it's a personal decision as to whether you want to do it or not, but if you were breeding pups, I would suggest to get them professionally docked since that's the "look" people pay money for.
