Question
I have a 13 yr old male cocker spaniel that has been to the vet four times for this problem.  It started with his feet around all nails it was red and sore and  his feet became very tender and sore.  I noticed that his pads the skin was actually flaking off.
I just noticed that his elbows the hair is gone and it is just sking which is flaking and coming off.   The vet has had him on antibotics and predsone.  And had me bathing him once a week.  He disgnosis was a deep nail bed infection.  I do not think this is the case.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Did your vet do a "tape or scrape" to get skin cells to analyze?  Did he tell you this was yeast or bacteria?  (If he didn't do that - he's guessing!)

It would scare me a LOT to have a senior dog on prednisone.  How long has he been being medicated?  What's the antibiotic - the dosage - length of treatment?  Are you seeing any improvement on the feet?  Is this bothering him a lot?  Is the only topical, the once a week bath?
