Is there such a thing as too much exercise

Question
Hi,
We have an 18 week old English Cocker Spaniel, and have just started walking her after her 16 week injections.  Some friends have other breeds of dog and have been told that they shouldn't exercise them for too long at a time (no more than 30 minutes).  Is the same true for Cockers?  She seems to walk and walk happily (we generally go for about 30 minute walks) and would do more. Is this going to harm her as she grows?

Thanks
Neil

Answer
Hi Neil,
Puppies have "bursts" of energy so a 30 minute walk is fine but longer than that will tire them out too much.
Half an hour twice a day is plenty.  So..yes..there is such a thing as too much exercise for a young puppy.

A tired dog is a good dog :)  But at 18 weeks most of her energy is taken up by simply "growing".

Get her on a routine which will help with housetraining.
With puppies - routine is your friend !

At her age she needs 4 to 5 meals a day - leash and take out after every meal.  When she goes - lots of praise and a treat.  Take her out immediately after a nap..praise and treat.
Best of luck with your little girl.
