dog food

Question
QUESTION: One other question, all the dog foods you mention are not available in
Belgium - i googled them all and went through the store locations - no go.
So, i will go to a specialist store tomorrow, when shops open after May 1st
holiday - its egg and rice today - what are the ingredients I should be looking
out for so that I can find the best alternative to the brands you've mentioned?

My other dogs were sheep dogs and collie crosses - happy and healthy with
good scraps and good, but just supermarket dog food. Thrived on it.

This little girl is going to need something better balanced to get her up to
form and I'm hoping that will help with the aggression issues, along with
what ever other ideas you can give me on that one - my last question.

Thanks again and sorry or hogging your time!

ANSWER: When you read a dog food label, just know that it`s the first 3 or 4 ingredients your pup is eating.  A good dog food should have a named meat first and what it shouldn`t have is corn, wheat, meat by-products, brewer`s rice or a long list of carbs.

For instance - here`s an ingredient list from Lick Your Chops:
Lamb - lamb broth - lamb liver - ocean fish - brown rice - carrots - egg, etc.  No cheap fillers there and the rice is 5th on the list.

And Clemence, write anytime about anything - that`s what I`m here for :)

QUESTION: Sounds well worth licking chops over.

I have been researching further and found the wonderfully named Swiss
brand called.... Barf. No joke - they advocate raw feeding.

But the only thing i can get (I'm in Brussels),  at a specialist pet shop which is proud to advertise that it sells Pedigree Chum, is Hills? Does that ring any
bells? Here is a product I think I could get hold of, could you be kind and just
have a quick look at the link, it is the a breakdown of one of their line's
ingredients.

The shop advertises itself as stocking Hills so if they don't have this in they
should, hopefully (Belgium is not verrrry customer service orientated), be able
to order it.
But, the percentage of carbs is higher than the protein. Which isn't good,
huh?
If that is no good, on the menu next week could be Belpet, Eukanuba, Frolic,
IAMS (which I have seen you don't think is so hot), Pedigree Chum, Royal
Canin and one I have never heard of which sounds Dutch: Versele-Laga.
Otherwise I'll just bear in mind what you have said and try and find the one
that best fits the bill.
What are real no nos? You mentioned vitamin caps to someone whose little
hound had a skin complaint and you said tabs not capsules because the
capsules have soya in them. Yet the Hills lists soya proudly as an ingredient.
Soy good/ soya bad? Someone else mentioned an ingredient that was harmful
to cockers, or am I just going boss-eyed?
Its egg and rice at the mo.
Start up questions, thanks for being there,
Clemence

Answer
Pedigree is crap and Hill's is just as bad.

If this is all you can get, I'd (unhappily)go for Royal Canin.

I will look up Belpet - Frolic - Versele-Laga.

Clemence, I gave you my personal email address and it'd be so much easier and faster if you'd use that.

Yes Hill's "proudly" says soy is in their food.  You won't find a premium food that has soy in it.
