snapping and growling

Question
I have had my 4 month old, female, blue roan, cocker spaniel for about 5 weeks now and she seems to be getting more and more aggresive as the days pass.  At first I just put it down to puppy behaviour but as it's getting worse I'm starting to wonder if this is what to expect from her all her life or if I'm doing something wrong with regard to her training. I don't want to get rid of her, but if she's turning and growling then snapping at me I definately don't want her to do it to my 6 and 3 year olds.
Where am I going wrong?

Answer
You don't say what training you're doing..but this is not untypical behavior and can be handled in a week.

Your first mistake was not addressing it asap and letting it go on..but never mind..common attitude.. "it's just puppy behavior".

Next time she growls..get down on her level...STARE right into her eyes and quietly but firmly say NO.  Do Not lose eye contact.
continue saying NO in the same authoritative but quiet voice until she breaks eye contact.  You just won.

Everyone thinks cockers are cute little fluffy bundles and they are..but they're also very dominant dogs.

Let me know what happens with that approach.  I have other tricks up my sleeve for puppies who think they're alpha dogs :)

You've only had her for 5 weeks and she's very young.  This can be solved fairly quickly if you get on it.
