My dog has an ear infection for the last 4 months help!

Question
Hi there, my dog has a chronic ear infection for the last 4 months.. my vet said she's never seen an ear infection this bad so he was put on Bacterial, steroids and Aurzone drops twice daily and he's been sedated twice so we could flush out his ears.
We felt that helped but then he got immune to the Baytril.... he's now on 1/2 a steroid tablet every second day and gets his ears cleaned twice a day with Trizeta (it changes the PH balance of his ears) then I wait a 1/2 hour before I put 'canaural' liquid anti-biotic into his ears... he's been through soooo much and I'm worried his on the steroids so long it may weaken his liver.  We also got a swab taken and it turns out his allergic to house dust... it explains alot as my dog 'Henry' loved sleeping underneath our bed.. he's no longer allowed there...
To begin with he'd had a yeast infection and a bacterial infection in both ears thank goodness the yeast infection is cleared up and his right ear seems to be on the mend but his left ear still has the bacterial infection #I can spell the one but my vet said he has the worse one :-( # and every time I clean his ear this horrible dark brown discharge comes out.  I'm at my wits end... he's going to the vet tomorrow to get sedated for the 3rd time to give his ears another flush out... I've asked my vet about sending him to a specialist but she didn't really answer me. Now I'm thinking maybe different anti-biotic might help him.  Please help... has anyone had a similar case is there anything else I can do for him?? he's been through sooo much...

Thanks in advance,

Gillian

Answer
How did your vet diagnose the infection?  Did she take a swab and analyze it?

What I'd most definitely do is get some Zymox cleaner and meds.  You can order it from EntirelyPets.com and, I think, 1-800-PetMeds but I know EntirelyPets.com carries the full line.
You need the cleaner and both meds.  One med is hydrocortisone free and one has 1% hydrocortisone. (Zymox Otic is the name).

This stuff if miraculous and my own vet uses nothing else.  No prescription necessary and it works whether it's yeast or bacteria.  "Brown discharge" is usually yeast.

I wouldn't be without it.  Just go to the site and type in "Zymox" in the search box.
Get the cleaner and both meds.

You'll use the hydrocortisone-free med because the ear is not red, swollen or inflamed.
What you do is fill the canal - massage ear - let dog shake head and do NOT clean out the med.
Just wipe excess off outer ear flap but do not clean out the canal.  Do this daily for a week.
Wait a day - then use the cleaner as you would any cleaner.

See how it is after a day or so of cleaning.  If necessary, go another week of med treatment.
Do not use any other ear product with the Zymox.

Trust me - this is the way to go.  It has saved so many dogs from chronic ear infection.
Vet Dermatologists love this product.

The med with hydrocortisone is only used, as I said, if it's red and swollen.  And only for 1 week.  The Hydrocortisone-free med is safe for long term use.

Some dogs need a weekly med treatment to maintain ear health once it's under control.
Don't do clean & treatment together...separate by a few days.

Best of luck,
Delores
