Leaving a Cocker Spaniel puppy for 7 hours a day

Question
I am thinking of buying an 8 week old cocker spaniel puppy but work full time.  I will be spending a whole week with the puppy then will have to go back to work, he would be alone for approx 7 hours, will the puppy be able to cope with this and would it be best to leave him in a crate or in a small empty room with his basket and some water and a few toys.

Answer
Hi Angela, in answer to your question im sorry but seven hours to leave any dog let alone a puppy is a no go, my advice to you would be please dont do this an 8 week old puppy needs training stimulation, socialisation, playing, four meals a day and company, your puppy would be getting none of this, if you proceed with this you will end up with a very sad problem dog, the only way to do this would be if you could get home at dinner hour, or maybe a member of your family or friends could come in during the day to take puppy out feed him, if he/she is left seven hours how will you ever house train him/her. My Cocker just had a litter of puppies and if you had come to me i would of definately not let you have one of my pups. Please rethink this and wait until you are in a position to be with a pup, older dogs can be left but even then not on a regular basis day in day out, So i ask you please reconsider. I dont mean to sound harsh but if you told a breeder one of her pups was going to be left for seven hours if they were decent they would not let you have one. Sorry
