Question
This is the first time I have had puppies so I'm new to this, any help will be appreciated.  My 4 year old cocker, Mollie, had 7 puppies on March 21, 2008.  Their eyes opened on April 7.  My question is when do they fully develop their sight?  I am concerned that some of them may not be seeing very well.

Answer
Oooooh congratulations Jan, sorry for delay computer not allowing me to send messages hope its fixed now.

How exciting for you but such a worrying time, their eyes begin to open between 12 and 17 days, their sight will be very fuzzy to start with but by five weeks they should be seeing well, dont worry too much if they seem to be bumping into things, its more to do with still not being strong rather than their sight, they will still be a bit wobbly and awkward at the moment but beleive me by 5 1/2 weeks onwards they seem to come into their own and there will be no holding them back, they will be into everything and anything.

I wish you the very best of luck in rearing your young, i will say it was hard work but worth every minute, Lucy had five 3 boys 2 girls and each one was beautiful, they went to fantastic homes and i am in touch with them all either by phone email or visits, pick you new owners well and you will always be proud of Your cocker and her pups.
All the bet and dont hesitate to contact me again if you even need just a chat.
Best Wishes
Kathy
