Question
I have my Jessica, Blonde Cocker Spaniel, she will 14 years old this month.  She has never been a picky eater, she has not eaten off and on for over two weeks, I switched foods, she ate it a couple of times and now she does not want the food I bought.  The question I have right now she is at the Vet, with an IV.  They are telling me that it may be kidney failure; pancreatis, or a bladder infection, she is still drinking water.  She had a bladder infection a few years back and had surgery.  I just want another opinion as to what may be going on with her, I do not think is is kidney failure, because I looked up the symptom and her urine does not stink and she is not drinking excessively.  Help  I am afraid of losing her.

Answer
Oh Miriam, I'm so sorry and I know how worried you must be.
Your vet will be doing some tests which will tell you what the problem is.  Drinking a lot is a signal for kidney disease and at her age that wouldn't be unusual but there's a lot that can be done to handle it and your vet will probably show you how to do subcutaneous fluid injection at home to keep her comfortable.
When you say she had surgery for a bladder infection, I'm assuming that was for bladder stones?  She could have another one and an x-ray or ultrasound will detect that.
I'm sure your vet will do that.  If he hasn't - make sure he does.
At this point, don't panic and if she has a large stone then do the surgery.  I know she's 14 but these days the anesthetics are far safer.
Best of luck and much sympathy
